Fit Friday: Sodastream & Homemade Raspberry Cordial

If you've read this post about our awesome day with Amanda at the Sodastream Play Event - then you'll know that Camille and I were lucky to receive our very own bright yellow Sodastream Play*.

It's been years since we've had a Sodastream, and honestly I'm a little annoyed that our last one went missing - because ever since we've got this, we've been using it non-stop!

As well as using some of the delicious syrups you can get (not going to lie, I need to get my hands on the Strawberry Daiquiri one), we've also been experimenting a lot with just plain soda water/infused waters. We're going to share some of those recipes next time, but today I thought we'd share a delicious Homemade Raspberry Cordial recipe that we've been slightly obsessed with.

As you'll see this recipe does contain quite a bit of sugar. However, this makes an intense concentrate that you dilute with water or soda water (from the Sodastream Play), so really it's not as bad as it looks.

Homemade Raspberry Cordial - Makes 8 cups

  • 6 cups sugar

  • 3 cups water

  • grated zest of 3 lemons

  • 1 cup lemon juice

  • 1tbsp citric (or tartaric) acid

  • 3 cups of raspberries (fresh or frozen)

Thoroughly wash and sterilise several glass bottles with tight fitting lids.

To make the base, place sugar and water in a large saucepan and bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar has thoroughly dissolved. Add the lemon zest and juice, then mix in the citric or tartaric acid.

Add the raspberries and bring the mixture back to the boil. Simmer for 5 minutes. As you can see, we underestimated the size of the mix and had to change to a bigger saucepan, hahaha.

Remove from heat and leave to cool. Strain mixture through a sieve lined with muslin, or a brand new chux cloth that has been rinsed in boiling water.

Pour into the sterilised bottles, seal and store in fridge. This cordial will last for months! Dilute to taste with water or with soda water using the Sodastream Play.

This cordial concentrate is delicious. From here all you need to do is add it to the soda water you've made with the Sodastream Play, to taste. And there you have it, your own completely homemade fizzy drink. Enjoy!

The Sodastream Play retails for $139.99 NZD and is available from The Warehouse, Farmers and all good appliance stores around New Zealand.

What's the best drink you've made with your Sodastream?

Thanks for viewing!

  7. Yikes that is a lot of sugar haha. It looks really pretty though. I just checked out the SodaStreamNZ facebook page and saw they're releasing flavours sweetened with stevia. :D I'm pretty limited with my sugar-free drink choices so this could be revolutionary for me. :D On the xmas wishlist you go, Sodastream!

  8. Yup, as a concentrate it definitely has a lot of sugar - which is why it needs to be diluted. Definitely not suitable for those who're after sugar-free drinks! We're going to be sharing some more infused water recipes using the soda water, which could be more suitable for you?
It's awesome that they're releasing flavours sweetened with stevia - now they'll have something suitable for everyone! I swear Sodastream have come a long way since I was a kid! :D oxo
